Fox said today that it will air the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20. It’s a not-unexpected move that TV’s biggest awards show is going back to its early fall roots and a Sunday, but it sill must be a sigh of relief that last’s year’s rare Monday, August 25 airdate is in the rear-view mirror.
Fox also announced that the annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be held Saturday, September 12 and will air again on FXX on a date to be announced.
Last year, NBC yanked the Emmys out of its traditional night-before-the-start-of-the-TV season berth to August to make way for the network’s Sunday Night Football. It had done that twice before, but not on a Monday — a weeknight when most of the biz already is out of the office and/or on vacation and certainly not in front of the tube.
This year’s Primetime Emmys will air live on both coasts from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles from 8-11 PM ET/5-8 PM PT.
