After going for more high-concept/genre fare yesterday with pilot orders to a Tales From The Darkside reboot, Tom Kapinos’ ghost drama Dead People and Julie Plec’s Cordon, the CW has added action-adventure mystery drama project Cheerleader Death Squad to its slate of 2015 pilots.
The network has given a pilot green light to the project, from Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids creator/executive producer Marc Cherry, Under The Dome showrunner Neal Baer and Blue Bloods executive producer Dan Truly. Written by the trio, Cheerleader Death Squad is described as “Heathers meets Alias“ and centers on a disgraced CIA agent-turned-teacher at an elite Washington, D.C. prep school. When he realizes that his students have high-level access through personal connections, he trains a select few to be his eyes and ears into the world of international espionage and help him earn his way back into the agency.
CBS TV Studios, where Baer has an overall deal, is the studio. Cherry, Baer and Truly executive produce with Cherry’s partner in Cherry/Wind Productions, Sabrina Wind.
In addition to his duties on Blue Bloods, Truly serves as a consulting producer on Under The Dome.
