NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams logged its second consecutive month on top in the ratings, both in overall audience and the news demo. Nightly topped ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir by an average of 219,000 news-demo viewers in January.
Season-to-date, Nightly is the No. 1 evening news program in total viewers and all key demographics and is delivering its best start to a season since 2005.
The NBC broadcast has been tops in the news demo for four consecutive weeks, eight of the last nine weeks and 10 of the past 13 weeks. Last week, NBC’s newscast widened its lead over ABC by 107% in the news demo, compared to same week last year.
In total viewers, Williams celebrated his show’s 280th consecutive week at No. 1. On Monday evening, as much of the country braced for a severe storm, NBC’s Nightly averaged 11.420 million viewers — the largest evening news delivery of the week and the broadcast’s biggest single-day audience since the day after Thanksgiving. Also on Monday, Nightly drew its biggest single-day demo audience (3.138 million) since the Sochi Olympics in February of ’14.

NBC’s newscast clocked 9.889 million viewers last week — 2.537 in the news demo. ABC logged 9.486 million viewers — 2.320 million in the news demo. CBS’s Scott Pelley-anchored newscast averaged 8.009 million viewers — 1.991 mil in the news demo.
