Longtime senior Warner Bros marketing guru Sandy Reisenbach died at his Beverly Hills home on January 6 after a long illness. He was 82.
Reisenbach joined Warner Bros. Pictures in 1979 as EVP Advertising and Publicity after 20 years in the advertising business. He guided more than 250 marketing campaigns including Oscar winner Chariots Of Fire, the Batman, Lethal Weapon and Police Academy movies and Private Benjamin.
Reisenbach was eventually promoted to EVP Marketing and Planning, where for the next 12 years he oversaw and advised on worldwide marketing and had oversight of Warner Bros. Family Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, the company’s kids’ programming and marketing initiative, and theme park interests.
He stepped away from his day-to-day responsibilities in 2001 and became a consultant to Barry Meyer and Alan Horn, who was running the studio.
“Sandy was a dear friend, mentor and colleague for almost four decades,” said Meyer today. “His professional accomplishments, while truly impressive, pale in comparison to his humanitarian activities. He cared about making the world a better place and was doing something about it. He was truly one of the good guys, and I will miss him very much.”
Reisenbach worked as an adjunct professor at USC’s Marshall School of Business and was a past chairman of the Advertising & Publicity Committee of the MPAA. He was also a member of both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
