Fox has made it official, confirming our scoop that Paula Abdul would be joining veteran summer reality competition series So You Think You Can Dance as a new judge. She will be one of two new judges on the show next season, along with singer-songwriter-dancer Jason Derulo. They will join co-creator/executive producer Nigel Lythgoe at the judges table. Also returning for Season 12 of SYTYCD —  which will feature a new twist in the competition: stage dancers vs. street dancers — is host Cat Deeley.

SYTYCD JULY 2 JUDGES“With the new and exciting format comes a new and exciting panel of judges,” said Lythgoe. “Paula is an incredible artist, and she brings the perfect combination of expertise and heart to the panel. Jason’s insight, humor and creativity will add a new perspective to the panel that we haven’t had before.”

Abdul and Derulo are stepping in as Mary Murphy, a staple on the 19 Entertainment/dick clark prods. show from the very beginning, recently exited the show.

This marks Abdul’s return to Fox, where she was a judge on American Idol and The X Factor. The singer/dancer-turned-choreographer has SYTYCD experience: She was a guest judge during the 2013 season on Fox and a judge on this year’s cycle of SYTYCD Australia. Derulo was a guest judge on SYTYCD last year.
