The appointment of Jocelyn Diaz as EVP for Original Programming is consistent with vows that the premium network backed by Viacom, Lionsgate, and MGM will become a player in scripted TV production. In her previous gig as VP of Production at Walt Disney Studios Diaz helped to develop and produce live action movies including Into The Woods, and Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Prior to that she was Head of Drama Series at HBO handling Boardwalk Empire and Big Love, and at ABC Television worked on series including Lost, Ugly Betty, NYPD Blue and The Drew Carey Show.
With Diaz on board “we’re going to be able to take this to a new level with original scripted series that resonate with our viewers,” CEO Mark Greenberg says. “To be successful at originals you must be authentic – that’s exactly what Jocelyn brings to the table.”
In November, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman told analysts that EPIX will “significantly grow its operating income as it prepares to add high quality original programming produced by Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM beginning at the end of 2015.” Last March Time Warner Cable became the largest cable company to offer EPIX.
