Another homegrown Disney Channel talent is getting their own series in the Disney family. Disney XD has given a straight-to-series order to Gamer’s Guide To Everything, a live-action comedy series toplined by Cameron Boyce, who co-starred on the Disney Channel sitcom Jessie.
The six-episode series, which begins production in the spring for a summer premiere, centers on Conor (Boyce), a 15-year-old video game phenom who’s forced to attend high school for the first time after a thumb injury sidelines him from the glamorous pro gaming circuit. As a coping mechanism, he begins to visualize life as a video game. He is reunited with his three former gamer friends — played by Murray Rundus (Dear Eleanor), Felix Avitia (Ingles) and Sophie Reynoldson (Finding Oblivion) — whom he left behind for life on the pro circuit World Tour, and quickly realizes that restoring his friendships is vital in his quest to “level up” to his former glory.
“With the popularity of video games and electronic sports, we’re thrilled to give our audience a new series that spotlights one of their biggest passions and features fan-favorite star Cameron Boyce,” said Disney Channels Worldwide EVP Original Programming Adam Bonnett. He added that the show is “bringing the video game universe to life” and giving the “multi-camera series a fresh, new twist by integrating gaming visual effects into each episode.”
The series was created by Devin Bunje & Nick Stanton (Disney XD’s Zeke & Luther), who also serve as executive producers. Veteran showrunner Jim O’Doherty (Disney XD’s Kickin’ It) is executive producing and will serve as showrunner.
In addition to his co-starring role on Jessie, Boyce voices Jake in Disney Junior’s Jake And The Never Land Pirates animated series and will be seen in Disney Channel’s high-profile upcoming fairytale-themed movie The Descendants.
Bunje and Stanton are repped by APA.
