We started 2014 with significant changes in management, and some questions about Deadline’s future. We never stopped hustling, and believing the best team in the business works here. We are happy to report that in 2014, our readership showed remarkable growth — and not the kind that came from chasing celebrity garbage stories, but in consistently delivering real business news first to the entire entertainment industry.
Here are the numbers for the past six months, per Google Analytics. We ended 2014 with the highest traffic figures in the site’s history. We’re sure readership was up elsewhere because of keen interest in the Sony hacking crisis. We are particularly proud of our numbers because we made a conscious decision not to pander for eyeballs by feasting on the stolen emails that were handed to every media outlet in what turned out to be a scheme to validate a terror threat to keep theaters from releasing The Interview. Deadline still broke many of the biggest stories, starting with the pre-Thanksgiving revelation that Sony computers had been compromised by hackers. Here are the numbers:
December: 13.3M unique visitors
November: 8.0M unique visitors
October: 10.3M unique visitors
September: 6.9M unique visitors
August: 7.5M unique visitors
July: 5.9M unique visitors
Despite the behind-the-scenes turbulence of 2013, Deadline, long regarded as the #1 source for the business of entertainment, has in fact grown its industry readership year after year. Here are the numbers for the past three:
2014: 85.4M unique visitors / 267.7M page views / 1.9 pages per session
2013: 66.6M unique visitors / 229.4M page views / 1.8 pages per session
2012: 45.4M unique visitors / 166.8M page views / 1.7 pages per session
