Andrew Karpen’s Bleecker Street is continuing to shore up deals for its nascent slate of films, inking a multi-year distribution deal with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for Blu-ray, DVD, electronic sell-through and VOD. UPHE will handle marketing, sales and distribution services on those platforms under terms of the pact unveiled today.
The deal reunites Karpen, the former co-CEO of NBCUniversal’s Focus Features, with his former parent company. He launched Bleecker Street in August.
The move comes the same week the indie film distributor sealed a multi-year deal with Canada’s Elevation Pictures as Bleecker Street positions its first film slate on the starting line. It kicks off with the Al Pacino-starrer Danny Collins, which opens in select cities March 20. It also has the Viggo Mortensen-starrer Captain Fantastic, the Edward Zwick-helmed chess pic Pawn Sacrifice and Jay Roach’s Trumbo starring Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane and Helen Mirren.
The deal was negotiated by Kent Sanderson, Avy Eschenasy and Stephen Einhorn on behalf of Bleecker Street and UPHE’s Jed Lackman.
