In his first return to TV since the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, Danny Boyle is bringing Babylon to SundanceTV tonight. As my video review above says, this Brit-based six-part police satire is sharp and poignant with poised performances.
Long story short: Babylon takes us behind the scenes at London’s Metropolitan Police as an newly transplanted American PR guru, played by Brit Marling, tries to fashion a new image and approach for the organization’s heavily resistant Commissioner, played by James Nesbitt (recently also fantastic in The Missing), in an arena filled with enemies both within and without.
Plus there’s a great supporting cast that includes Paterson Joseph, whom you might recognize from HBO’s The Leftovers, and Bertie Carvel. Needless to say, tongues and figurative knives are sharp. All of which makes for some eminently watchable TV.
Check out my review. Are you looking forward to seeing the show? Let us if you plan on taking a trip to Babylon.
