Keith and Kenny Lucas, creators and voice stars of Fox/ADHD’s animated series The Lucas Bros. Moving Co., are expanding their relationship with the network to live-action comedy. The sibling comedians are set to star in A Better Bushwick, a single camera comedy project for Fox. Written and co-executive produced by Christian Lander (Bordertown), Keith Lucas and Kenny Lucas, A Better Bushwick will mirror the real-life story of identical twin brothers Keith and Kenny dropping out of their third year at Duke and NYU law schools, respectively, in order to pursue their dreams. In real life, the two left to pursue careers as actor/comedians. On the show, they will do it to become community organizers. The idea came from Lander, a fan of Lucas Bros Moving Co., which was just picked up by FXX for its new late-night animation block. “The guys as community organizers is perfect since everyone, thanks to Obama, has now heard of this job but no one really knows what the job duties entail,” Lander said. “For a comedy writer, that is gold.”
A Better Bushwick is executive produced by Marcus Wiley as well as Michael Rotenberg and Avi Gilbert of 3 Arts Entertainment. 20th Century Fox Television is the studio.
The Lucas Bros have been on the rise with their animated series Lucas Bros. Moving Co., sketch comedy series Friends Of the People on TruTV and their breakout roles as Keith and Kenny Yang in 22 Jump Street. Here is them doing standup on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last month.
In addition to his day job as a TV comedy writer, Lander has authored two bestselling books, Stuff White People Like and Whiter Shades of Pale.
