Stephen Colbert and James Corden had their first made-for-TV date, on The Colbert Report. Whenever it is that David Letterman decides he’s going to retire — money’s on May — the two men will become CBS’s new late-night duo, with Corden taking over Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson in March.
“I gotta say though, following David Letterman — that must be intimidating. you must have some balls!” Colbert marveled last night.
“I’m an hour later. God help that guy. People are really worried about it at the network,” shot back Corden, currently starring in Into The Woods.
“I’ve done 160 shows a year. How many shows have you done on teleivsion?” Colbert asked
“Uh, eight,” Corden said.(was a co-creator, co-writer and co-star of BBC’s Gavin & Stacey, for which he won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Comedy Performance.)
Colbert discussed the less rigorous British system of series TV, and Corden concluded his new show is “going to be a complete disaster.”
Then they sang a Christmas song.
