Syfy today announced that Chris Regina, one of the key architects behind the network’s acquisitions strategy, including Sharknado, has been upped to Senior VP Program Strategy, Syfy and Chiller. Regina now will report directly to Dave Howe, President, Syfy and Chiller.
In his newly expanded role, Regina will oversee Syfy and Chiller’s program planning and strategy, original-movie development and production, and scheduling. He also will oversee Syfy’s acquired international and domestic co-productions ranging from the series Z Nation to such programs as Lost Girl, Bitten, Continuum, and the upcoming Olympus.
Regina joined Syfy in 1998 as Director, Scheduling and Administration. Prior to that, he was Program Director at WGTW-TV in Philadelphia, where he oversaw all program scheduling and acquisitions as well as off-air marketing and promotion.
“Chris has done a remarkable job building a solid primetime schedule with smart, on-the-brand acquisitions and co-productions, along with being the driving force behind the Sharknado global social media phenomenon,” Howe said in today’s news. “We look forward to his many contributions to the growth of Syfy in the years to come.”
Syfy, launched in 1992 as SCI FI Channel, currently is available in 96 million homes and is a network of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.
