A month after Evan Shapiro exited as Pivot president in a management shakeup at Participant Media’s startup network, he is joining NBCUniversal as EVP Digital Enterprises. It is a newly created position whose job description includes companywide strategic development of digital opportunities to reach emerging audiences, including alternative platforms and direct to consumer distribution models. Based in New York, Shapiro will start December 8 and reportto NBCUniversal EVP Cesar Conde.
As President of Pivot, Shapiro launched the channel in August 2013, growing its reach to 44 million-plus subscribers. He previously served as President of IFC TV and Sundance Channel. He also has executive produced a number of original documentaries and series including This Film Is Not Yet Rated, Brick City, Trapped In The Closet and IFC’s Portlandia.
