The Lonely Island‘s new alternative comedy development venture, launched in January with a multi-year deal at Fox, has built its first development slate, which features a sci-fi comedy starring Community‘s Danny Pudi, a mocumentary hosted by comedian Neal Brennan and a hidden camera show with comedian Andre Hyland. Additionally, the company of Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone now has a name, Party Over Here (and a logo), and has hired Billy Rosenberg (Date Night), SVP of Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps, as head of development and production.
The first three projects on Party Over Here’s slate are already in production. They are filming a pilot or multiple episodes with the intent of getting the programs distributed via over-the-top video platforms like Hulu and Roku and the ultimate goal of growing them into linear half-hour series on Fox, FX, FXX, Fox International Channels or other networks.
“Akiva, Andy and Jorma have exceeded our expectations in identifying and nurturing a number of bold new ideas that might not otherwise have been produced through the traditional process,” said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, SVP of Multi-Platform Programming for Fox. In the original announcement of the venture, it was described as an “alternative pipeline of next-generation comedy series.”
Here are descriptions of Party Over Here’s first projects, all executive produced by Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone:
THE TYLER ZONE
When Tyler (Danny Pudi) moves to a new town, he finds himself in the middle of a series of supernatural occurrences. Are they really happening, or is it all in his head? Music video and commercial director Keith Schofield wrote and directed this surreal sci-fi comedy.
HOME FOR THE WEEKEND
Hosted by comedian Neal Brennan (Chappelle’s Show), HOME FOR THE WEEKEND is a mockumentary-style half-hour comedy following a celebrity’s return trip to his or her hometown, where pleasant strolls down memory lane can take unexpected turns and reveal surprising backstories about high-profile stars. The first episode in production features The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone back in Berkeley, CA, where they grew up.
