With 21 women and counting accusing Bill Cosby of sexual misconduct, the Los Angeles police department opened an investigation on Friday into a woman’s claims that the comedian molested her when she was 15 years old, according to an AP report. LAPD were spurred to investigate after a 90-minute meeting with another alleged Cosby victim, Judy Hath, who is suing the comedian for sexual battery. Huth’s civil suit claims Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.
No further details were provided by the LAPD about the investigation. Police Chief Charlie Beck has urged potential Cosby victims to speak with detectives, even if their claims fall outside the statute of limitations and can’t be prosecuted. Cosby’s attorney, Martin Singer, accused Huth and another lawyer, Marc Strecker, of extortion. Singer’s filing says that Strecker first demanded $100,000 for Huth to remain silent on the burgeoning sex-abuse scandal, but then upped the demand to $250K as more women have gone public with their accusations against Cosby .
