Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Animals, the SXSW 2014 title starring Prisoners‘ David Dastmalchian and Kim Shaw as young Chicagoan lovers and addicts whose relationship is tested by a sudden, life-altering setback. Collin Schiffli makes his directorial debut with the film, which Dastmalchian wrote. Oscilloscope is planning a 2015 release.
“We are so thrilled to be releasing Animals, a film we haven’t been able to shake since first seeing it at South by Southwest,” Oscilloscope’s Dan Berger and David Laub said in a statement. “The movie is at once a bold and honest look at one of the tougher parts of our world, while simultaneously a poetic and lyrical reflection on how love and human connection can get anyone through the most difficult of circumstances. Collin is a major new filmmaker, and we are excited to welcome him, David and the rest of the Animals team to the O-Scope family.” The deal was negotiated by ICM Partners and Marc Simon of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard on behalf of the filmmakers.
