On the heels of its most-watched broadcast year ever in its core demo ages 12-34, MTV2 is beefing up its original comedy slate. The network has greenlit two new comedy series for late night, MTV2’s Joking Off and Number 2 News (wt), and ordered new seasons of Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out and Guy Code, for a 2015 premiere. Wild ‘N Out is the highest-rated series in MTV2 history and wrapped the first half of its sixth season in September as the top cable series in its time period among teens. The sixth season will resume later this year before the seventh season premieres in 2015. Additionally, the network is developing a talk show pilot, Uncommon Sense With Charlamagne, starring Guy Code‘s Charlamagne tha God, with Rich Korson (The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report) serving as showrunner.
MTV2’s Joking Off, is described as a fast-paced half-hour comedic game show where social media meets improv. It features teams of rising young comedians delivering laugh out loud reactions to the most ridiculous tweets, Instagram images, videos, and write-ups. The teams must avoid getting joked off before one comedian reigns supreme. Back Roads Entertainment is executive producing with showrunner Michael Canter.
In Number 2 News (working title), MTV2’s comedic news team turns anything from the Internet into a funny news story. Series features the wildest clips in sports, weather, breaking stories and on the scene reporting. Kip Madsen and Geoff Bunch, repped by Gersh and attorney Lev Ginsburg, are showrunning and Dara Cook, Darin Byrne and Paul Ricci are exec producing for MTV.
Uncommon Sense With Charlamagne curates the loudest social media topics of the week. Hosted by MTV2’s Charlamagne tha God, the pilot will feature a panel of comedians and social media-inspired packages.
