EXCLUSIVE: Fox is acquiring an untitled Tinker Bell comedy-adventure that will star Melissa McCarthy as the eponymous fairy heroine, with Shawn Levy directing. The project was hatched with a fresh take on the classic tale by Levy, one that he fleshed out with McCarthy. Nicholas Stoller will write the script. Levy will produce through 21 Laps with McCarthy and her On the Day production banner.
McCarthy, who is coming off starring with Bill Murray in St. Vincent, is repped by CAA and the Schiff Company; Levy is repped by WME. He is putting the finishing touches on the third installment of his Night At The Museum trilogy for a holiday release and recently has been linked to two high-profile tentpoles: 40 Thieves for Fox and Minecraft for Warners. Levy has yet to declare his next film, and Tinker Bell becomes a priority project on that list, with a blue c-hip star and writer attached.
Stoller, who directed Neighbors and is working on the sequel, scripted Sex Tape and Muppets Most Wanted. He’s repped by UTA.
