Justina Machado (Purge Anarchy, Six Feet Under) has been cast in USA Network’s drama pilot Queen Of The South, an English-language adaptation of Telemundo’s blockbuster 2011 telenovela La Reina del Sur. Based on the bestselling book by Arturo Perez-Reverte, Queen Of The South centers on Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), who’s forced to go on the run when her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. She seeks refuge in America where she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. In the process, she learns the tools of the trade and strategically positions herself to become the leader of the cartel. Machado, repped by APA and D2 Management, will play Brenda, Teresa’s (Braga) best friend, a woman who is bubbly and energetic despite her boyfriend’s involvement in the drug trade. She narrowly escapes with her life when her boyfriend gets targeted for crossing the boss. Machado most recently had a series regular role on NBC’s Welcome To The Family.
Kyle Gallner has signed on for a series regular role on WGN America’s drama series Outsiders, a tale of struggle for power and control in the hills of Appalachia, from playwright Peter Mattei, producers Peter Tolan and Paul Giamatti, Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios. It tells the story of the Farrell clan, a family of outsiders who’ve been in these parts since before anyone can remember. Living off the grid and above the law on their mountaintop homestead, they’ll protect their world and defend their way of life using any means necessary. Gallner will play Hasil, a man with a deep wisdom and intense emotional presence, which allows him to be able to look into people’s souls and see so much more than anyone else. Gallner, repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson, is coming off Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper and Craig Gillespie’s The Finest Hours.
