Jon Stewart ended his Democalypse 2014 midseason election coverage asking RNC chairman Reince Priebus what Republicans ran on, “other than ‘Obama is Stalin’ and ‘Ebola is going to kill your grandparents’.”

Priebus explained that, despite months of job growth, “they didn’t think he was leading abroad and he wasn’t engaging domestically. So some of the things that may have been happening in regard to jobs and the stock market, etc., people weren’t feeling that at home.”

In maybe the best live interview of election-night coverage on TV, Stewart wondered if Priebus was surprised if the Dems’ strategy for midterm elections was “curling up in a ball and hoping you didn’t kick them in the face too hard” and whether, after six years “in an oppositional position, trying to stop anything,” his members would have difficulty remembering how to “do things?”

“I think what we’re going to see is the president’s going to have to come to the table…You do need the president’s signature on a bill. We still need to do that,” Priebus said.

“Now I think we can box him in, and get this done.”

Stewart suggested Priebus learn Obama’s signature and “own the country.”

“Listen, if the night gets any better, maybe we can do that too,” Priebus joked.
