Bunim/Murray Productions has hired John P. Roberts, former SVP Digital Media at Endemol, to head up its digital division and promoted former Director of Digital Media Kesila Childers to VP of the division, reporting to Roberts.
As Chief Digital Officer, Roberts will focus on increasing Bunim/Murray’s digital productions, including multiplatform and digital programming for the web, mobile devices and other online and connected device distribution platforms. He also will explore digital business and investment opportunities for the company. In her expanded role, Childers will continue to oversee digital extensions for on-air properties such as The Real World, The Challenge, Best Ink and Bad Girls Club as well as original digital content and social media initiatives.
At Endemol, Roberts oversaw original digital productions, interactive TV, social games and mobile apps. Projects included the launching of Endemol and Blizzard Entertainment reality-competition series Azeroth Choppers. Prior to Endemol, Roberts served as SVP Digital Content and Cross-Platform Entertainment at the Hub, recently renamed Discovery Family Channel. Earlier, he worked with companies including Lucasfilm, GSN, Vulcan Programming, Universal Studios and News Corp.
“With our continued commitment to innovation and engaging, groundbreaking storytelling, we are thrilled to bring John on board to lead BMP Digital,” Bunim/Murray President Gil Goldschein said. “His extensive experience in digital and multiplatform production will help us continue to grow our digital initiatives and overall media footprint and extend our brands across multiple platforms.”
Said Roberts: “Bunim/Murray is the best in the business when it comes to storytelling. They laid the foundation for unscripted TV and were pioneers in shining a spotlight on relatable, everyday people. This created the groundwork for much of the content that’s thriving on digital platforms today. My goal is to continue to build momentum and guide BMP Digital to the next level of content creation across all platforms including video, games and social media.”
