The Comeback is back on HBO on Sunday after almost a decade. And, as my video review says, the ahead-of its-time series could show even Kim Kardashian West what real celebrity self-obsession looks like. Though unscripted TV has caught up to what Lisa Kudrow’s Valerie Cherish was doing back in 2005, the character and the series have lost none of their ability to make you cringe, curse and laugh at her depiction of cluelessness and studied manipulation.
Executive produced by Kudrow, former Sex And The City showrunner Michael Patrick King and Dan Bucatinsky (who is also in the show), the new Comeback debuts after the premiere of the final season of Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom and right before the new season of Getting On. It also stars Seth Rogen in a well-cast role as, more or less, Seth Rogen.
What do you think of The Comeback, both the version now and the version back in 2005?
