The shortage of available experienced comedy writers this season has opened the door for a lot of newcomers — sometimes based on specs they had written — who often get paired with seasoned showrunners to supervise them. Such is the case with UCB New York’s Justin Noble, an up-and-coming writer with just a couple of staff writing stints under his belt (Idiotsitter, Dads). He wrote on spec Justin And Abby And Oh Yea Zack Too, a single-camera comedy, which has been sold to CBS with comedy veteran Tad Quill executive producing. CBS Studios, where Quill has an overall deal, is producing with studio-based the Tannenbaum Co. Quill, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum executive produce, with Noble co-executive producing. The ensemble comedy centers on platonic best friends Justin and Abby — and Abby’s boyfriend, who feels like a third wheel.
Quill most recently wrote half-hour Taxi-22 for CBS and CBS Studios, which was picked up to pilot last season but was pushed because of difficulties casting the lead. Noble and Quill are repped by ICM Partners; Noble is managed by Evan Corday.
