Powerful psychological drama Hungry Hearts debuted in Venice this year, scooping a slew of prizes in the process. Director Saverio Costanzo won the Leoncino d’Oro Agiscuola Award with Girls’ Adam Driver taking the Best Actor Volpi Cup and Italian thesp Alba Rohrwacher the Best Actress Volpi Cup. The English-language film (see trailer above) follows a couple in New York who struggle over their child’s upbringing when the wife’s maternal neuroses put the boy’s life in danger. It’s been compared to Polanski and Hitchcock — and definitely affected a lot of men on the Lido after its Venice premiere. IFC Films acquired North American rights to the picture earlier this month. Radiant Films International is handling sales.
