Nielsen’s ratings snafu in their rearview mirror, broadcast news divisions slugged out another weekly evening news story. NBC lead among overall audience for the week of October 13, ABC hung on to its news demo win, and NBC prevailed with 18-49 year olds.
In overall audience, NBC Nightly News, anchored by Brian Williams, logged 8.8 million viewers. ABC’s World News Tonight, now headlined by David Muir, scored 8.1 million, and Scott Pelley-anchored CBS Evening News snagged 6.4 mil.
ABC clocked 2.114 million news demo viewers, NBC 2.108 million, and CBS 1.598 million. NBC averaged 1.54 million 18-49 year olds, to ABC’s ABC 1.432 million and CBS’s 1.089 million.
ABC boasted World News Tonight is having its best season start in total viewers in 9 years, and in the news demo in 5. Season to date, ABC’s newscast is up 8% in total viewers and same in the news demo compared to last year. NBC, meanawhile, bragged it widened its total-viewer advantage over ABC by 97% week to week — by posting a weekly audience growth of 221,000 viewers week to week.
