Underworld‘s Len Wiseman, director/executive producer of Fox drama Sleepy Hollow, is teaming with the network for the retelling of another European legend, that of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The network is developing St. Patrick, an event miniseries from Len Wiseman’s Sketch Films and Sleepy Hollow studio 20th TV where Wiseman is under an overall deal.
Written by Black list writers Dan Frey & Russell Sommer (Bleeding Kansas), St. Patrick is described as a historical epic in the vein of Braveheart. The series explores Patrick‘s dramatic transformation from a rebellious teenager into a legendary peacemaker and chronicles his story as a slave who becomes a priest, a priest who becomes a warrior, and ultimately a warrior who becomes a saint. Born in Great Britain in the 5th century, Patrick was abducted by Irish pirates at age 16 and was taken to Ireland where he was enslaved for six years before escaping to return to his family. Acting on a vision, he goes back to Ireland as a Christian missionary and would go on to become one of the symbols of Ireland, with the date of his death, March 17, observed around the world as St. Patrick’s Day.
Wiseman will executive produce the project along with Sketch’s David Bernardi. Frey & Sommer, repped by Verve, Madhouse Entertainment, and attorney Sean Marks, will serve as supervising producers.
