Former Saturday Night Live cast member Jan Hooks died today in New York City, NBC News reports. She was 57. Hooks, an SNL regular from 1986-91, left the NBC late-night series to join the cast of CBS’ popular primetime comedy Designing Women when Jean Smart exited. She starred on that show’s final two seasons while continuing to appear on SNL in cameos until 1994. Hooks’ best-known character was Candy Sweeney of the Sweeney sisters, but she also was known for her impressions of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Reagan and Jodie Foster. Hooks later had a recurring role on NBC’s 3rd Rock From The Sun and guest-starred in two episodes of the network’s 30 Rock in 2010. She also recurred on The Simpsons as Apu’s wife Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon and appeared in features including Batman Returns, A Simon Birch and Coneheads.
