EXCLUSIVE: The key auspices behind last season’s NBC comedy pilot The Pro are back together for another comedy project that has Parks & Recreation and The West Wing alum Rob Lowe attached to star. Last fall, Lowe teamed with veteran comedy writers Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory (The Larry Sanders Show, Frasier) and ABC Studios, where the two are under an overall deal, for The Pro, which sold to NBC and eventually went to pilot. Despite the pilot missing the cut for series, Lowe, Huyck and Gregory loved the experience working together and decided to team for another project. The result is an ABC Studios-produced single-camera family comedy, which has landed again at NBC with penalty.
The comedy centers on a worldly, adventurous, and newly sober narcissist — a role written for Lowe — whose decision to become a devoted father happens when his son and daughter are already teenagers. He’s back in his hometown making amends to his kids, his ex-wife, her second ex-husband and their younger son, all of whom have mixed feelings about his newfound parental enthusiasm. Gregory, Huyck and Lowe executive produce alongside Marc Gurvitz at Brillstein Entertainment, which reps Lowe with WME.
