Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl will be joined by Mikael Nyqvist (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) in German helmer Florian Gallenberger’s period pic Colonia. The short film Oscar winner just wrapped in Luxembourg with the production now moving to Germany. The shoot will conclude in South America later this year. The thriller is inspired by true events and sees Brühl’s Daniel and Watson’s Lena entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. When Daniel is abducted by Pinochet’s secret police, Lena tracks him to a sealed-off area called Colonia Dignidad. The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by a lay preacher (Nyqvist), but is in fact a place from which no one has ever escaped. In order to find her beloved, Lena decides to join the cult. Also just added to the cast are Richenda Carey (Separate Lies), Vicky Krieps (A Most Wanted Man), August Zirner (The Counterfeiters) and Martin Wuttke (A Most Wanted Man, Inglourious Basterds).
Swedish actor Nyqvist, who’s in this week’s feature release John Wick, recently attended the Mipcom TV market in Cannes. He was there to support Bobby Moresco’s upcoming 100 Code series in which he plays a veteran homicide detective opposite Dominic Monaghan’s transplanted New York City cop. He’s repped by WME, Authentic Talent & Literary Management and Sweden’s Agentfirman.
Colonia is a Majestic production with Iris Productions and Rat Pack Filmproduktion in association with ProSieben and Sky. Release is scheduled for October 2015.
