Monterey Media has acquired U.S. rights to Like Sunday, Like Rain, the indie drama written and directed by Frank Whaley and starring Leighton Meester and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. The pic is coming off its premiere at the Raindance Film Festival. An early 2015 theatrical release is planned.
The story centers on a struggling musician (Meester) who becomes the guardian of a 12-year-old music prodigy (Julian Shatkin) one summer in Manhattan. Debra Messing and J. Smith Cameron co-star. Fabio Golombek and Uri Singer produced. It’s the fourth feature film penned and helmed by the APA-repped Whaley.
The deal was negotiated between Paradigm’s Meghan Oliver and Monterey Media managing partner Scott Mansfield.
