Deadline’s Pete Hammond reviews the film, which was directed by David Ayer, from a screenplay he wrote. It was produced by Ayer, Bill Block, John Lesher and Ethan Smith, and debuts Friday, from Columbia Pictures.
Let us know what you think of the film when you see it. Pete says its one of the year’s best and perhaps the best war film in 30 years (maybe even including Saving Private Ryan), with a particularly great performance by Pitt as Don ‘Wardaddy’ Collier, and is much more than just a great action film set in World War II. It’s a gripping, exciting and human drama brilliantly filmed and quite unlike any other movie this year. In a cast that also includes Jon Bernthal and Michael Pena , Lerman is a stand out who could be Oscar worthy. Yes, it’s violent but hey, war is hell. Watching this film is anything but that.
