EuropaCorp continues to build out its TV operations in the U.S., inking a non-exclusive venture with Slingshot Global Media with the aim of co-developing and co-financing two “globally appealing” projects a year. The tie-up combines two companies who employ the straight-to-series model.
In May, EuropaCorp Television’s U.S. arm named veteran executive producer Matthew Gross (Body Of Proof, Dirty Sexy Money) president charged with leading the company’s slate for the American market, expanding the French company’s reach beyond overseas with the idea of targeting co-productions with outside studios on a project-by-project basis. This summer, NBC aired EuropaCorp’s Taxi Brooklyn.
LA-based Slingshot, which has financial backing from private investment firm TPG Growth, was launched in February by former FremantleMedia topper David Ellender. It has teamed with Keanu Reeves on its first series, Rain, based on the best-selling book series by Barry Eisler, which Reeves is set to star in and executive produce. It also has paired with Reeves on New Angeles, the virtual reality drama series that Roland Emmerich will direct and exec produce.
“The Slingshot Global Media/EuropaCorp Television Studios alliance creates a ‘whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ scenario,” Gross said today.“By joining forces it strengthens our financing and distribution abilities with the straight-to-series model.”
