It’s goodbye Nickelodeon, and hello Discovery Family Channel, for the St. Louis-based cable company. Suddenlink, which just lost access to Viacom’s channels following a contract dispute, today it announced a “long-term” agreement to keep offering Discovery’s 13 U.S. networks — including kids’ channel The Hub, to be rebranded Discovery Family next week, and Discovery Fit & Health, which becomes Discovery Life in January. Like most new pay TV carriage deals, this one includes a collection of digital rights. Suddenlink customers will have TV Everywhere streaming access to the channels both inside and outside the home “in the near future,” the companies say.
“Discovery’s channels offer a wide range of interesting and educational content that provides great entertainment for diverse age groups,” says Suddenlink Chief Programming Officer Kathy Payne. “We’re especially pleased that we’ll be able to soon deliver Discovery’s unique branded content to our customers on a variety of devices.” Suddenlink has about 1.2M video subscribers concentrated in Texas, West Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, Missouri and Ohio.
