UPDATED: On the heels of ABC renewing summer drama series Mistresses for a third season, one of the stars, Alyssa Milano, announced on social media that she will be leaving the series because it is moving production to Canada.
After two wonderful seasons in Los Angeles, the studio has decided to shoot Season 3 of Mistresses in Vancouver, Canada for financial reasons. It’s with a heavy heart that I have decided that I can’t relocate.
I have two babies under 4. Being a mother and wife comes first, and I just can not uproot my children and separate the family by moving away.
I will miss this job desperately and wish everyone the absolute best.
I hear that the show’s producers and ABC were understanding and were not surprised by Milano’s move as it was part of her contract. I hear that the actress signed on for Mistresses originally with the stipulation that she can leave should the series moves filming away from Los Angeles, so she is triggering that option in her contract. It is unclear whether Milano will be recast or her character Savi will be written off.
Milano’s exit announcement came within hours of Community co-star Yvette Nicole Brown announcing that she also wouldn’t be returning to the series next season for personal reasons as she is taking care of her ailing father.
