EXCLUSIVE: Most of the Jennifer Aniston-related focus at Toronto has been for Cake, the Daniel Barnz-directed pic in which she plays a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support group. That film is still in the mix, but there’s another film creating buzz in Toronto even though it was not a festival selection. It’s She’s Funny That Way, the first film Peter Bogdanovich has directed in 13 years. While Cake got into Toronto, She’s Funny That Way premiered in Venice. But the buyers don’t flock to that festival, so the picture was screened secretly for buyers Monday afternoon by CAA, UTA and producer Cassian Elwes. There are four bids on the table, but they are smallish and the sellers still have the film in play. The screwball comedy is about a married Broadway director who falls for a prostitute-turned-actress and works to help her advance her career. The film also stars Owen Wilson, Imogen Poots, Lucy Punch, Rhys Ifans, Will Forte, Cybill Shepherd and Tatum O’Neal. From what I’m hearing, a deal will be locked before the weekend ends. Stay tuned.
