Sea Fog (Haemoo) is South Korea’s official submission for the Foreign-Language Feature Oscar race. Shim Sung-ho’s mostly ocean-set drama focuses on Chinese economic refugees and the fishermen-turned-human traffickers who transport them. Kim Yoon-seok, Park Yoo-chun, Han Ye-ri and Moon Sung-keun star. Snowpiercer helmer Bong Joon-ho executive produced the film, which was produced by Lewis Kim. It played Toronto this month. Finecut is handling international sales.
Jet Tone Films, the Hong Kong-based production company founded by Wong Kar Wai, has named Winnie Lau its Head of International Co-Production and Distribution. In the newly created role, she will lead Jet Tone’s strategic partnerships and co-productions with overseas media companies. Lau, who will be based out of Jet Tone’s Beijing and Hong Kong offices, was EVP Acquisitions at Fortissimo Films. “Jet Tone is delighted to welcome such a seasoned expert to our international team,” CEO Jacky Pangsaid. “Winnie’s proven experience and success in the global markets will allow our company to explore exciting new territory.”
