Ethan Hawke and Richard Gere will hold pride of place at the 52nd New York Film Festival. The Film Society of Lincoln Center will host Hawke on September 30 and Gere on October 8 for “An Evening With…” Updating the tribute format from previous years, the evenings will include an intimate dinner and a conversation between the guest of honor and NYFF Director Kent Jones, as fundraisers for the Society. Hawke will be attending the festival as a director, on behalf of his documentary Seymour: An Introduction. Gere stars in Time Out of Mind, a Main Slate selection from director Oren Moverman.
“An Evening With…” recognizes the work of individuals who have made significant artistic contributions to film culture, per the society. Past honorees include Pedro Almodóvar, David Cronenberg, Nicole Kidman, Richard Peña, and last year’s guests, Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes. Regarding the selection of Hawke and Gere, FSLC’s Executive Director Lesli Klainberg said, “We are very excited to be honoring two men that have built very successful careers enjoying both critical and box-office success, yet—as evidenced by their films at this year’s New York Film Festival are still exploring as artists and doing some of their best work yet.”
