Either President Barack Obama really loves the weather out here or the Democrats are scrambling for midterm election cash. Obama is coming to LA on October 9 for a DNC fundraiser at Gwyneth Paltrow’s house. That’s despite the fact that the invite to the July 24 presidential fundraiser that Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino hosted for Obama said that “this is the last trip to Los Angeles the President will be making this year.” Guess the hard cash allure of Tinseltown types once again forking out up to $32,400 a ticket for the Paltrow event was too hard for Obama and campaigning Democrats to resist. Especially in what is looking like down-to-the-wire congressional elections that the party want to pour more money into. The midterm elections are to be held on November 4. So far the Republican National Committee has raised around $140 million compared with the $126 million the Democrats have brought in.
The October event will be the 19th time the President has been out to LA to hit Hollywood up for cash since taking office in January 2009. Once again, his most consistent cash base will see big-ticket donors get some up-close face time to sweeten the pot. “Following the reception, President Obama will take your questions at an intimate dinner,” says the email invite to the Paltrow fundraiser that was sent out today.
The last time Obama was in LA, he not only had the Rapino event but another fundraiser at hosted by Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes and the show’s star Kerry Washington. Like Paltrow, Rhimes and Washington are longtime supporters of the President. And perhaps, with just under a month before the midterms, maybe we’ll see POTUS out in Hollywood again soon looking for more money.
