Machinima has named former Bunim/Murray Productions executive Daniel Tibbets as Chief Content Officer, a new role in the gamer-oriented online-video network. The move is one of several in a change-filled few months at Machinima, which this year has laid off much of its sales staff, seen several executives go and come and received an $18 million round of investment led by Warner Bros.
In the new role, Tibbets will be responsible for both programming strategy and building relationships with the YouTube creators whose thousands of videos populated the company’s multi-channel network on the video site and beyond.
Tibbets will report to Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein, who took over in March. Other recently added execs include General Counsel Chris Riley and Chief People Officer Tricia White. The network has nearly 25,000 channels with more than 385 million subscribers, making it one of the biggest of the MCNs trying to build ad-driven businesses on the creator talent of YouTube. Other investors include MK Capital, Redpoint Ventures and Google Capital.
Tibbets was most recently at Bunim/Murray Productions, as head of the unscripted TV production company’s digital media division. He previously worked at CBS Enterprises, Papazian-Hirsch/Rysher Entertainment, FOXLAB Inc. and Twentieth Television and GoTV.
