A record 1.1 million total viewers tuned in to remember Joan Rivers on Friday during E!’s 90-minute special Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan. That’s more than double the year-ago time period average (127%). The special was preceded by Joan Day, an all-day marathon of Fashion Police episodes that started at 7 AM and wrapped at 7 PM. The Rivers package propelled E! to its most-watched and highest-rated Friday in more than two years. E! has said Fashion Police will return in 2015 with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12.
Rivers was hospitalized on August 28 after suffering cardiac arrest during a routine procedure at a Manhattan clinic. She was unconscious when she arrived and doctors kept her sedated. On September 2, daughter, Melissa Rivers, said her mother had been placed on life support; she died two days later.
