A tweet from The Situation Room’s senior producer this morning heralded the unveiling of Carney as a CNN contributor. Move had been expected since Carney stepped down in June.
“We’re fortunate to have Jay on our air tonight to provide analysis and insight surrounding the President’s address to the nation,” CNN Washington bureau chief Sam Feist said in this morning’s announcement.
“Jay’s unique experience as both a journalist and a White House press secretary make him an invaluable voice for the network as we cover the final two years of the Obama Administration and look ahead to the coming campaigns,” Feist said.
Carney spent two decades at Time magazine, serving as Moscow correspondent, White House correspondent and Washington bureau chief. Before taking the White House gig, he was a former director of communications for VPOTUS Joe Biden; he’s married to journalist Claire Shipman, a senior correspondent at ABC News.
“I’m thrilled to be joining CNN at a time when there is so much happening in the nation and the world,” Carney said this morning in a statement.
