UPDATED: The current creative revamp at Syfy kicked off at the end of last year with a series pickup to drama Dominion. Now that series has been renewed for a second season with a 13-episode order. Writer/executive producer Vaun Wilmott, who developed the drama based on characters from the 2010 feature Legion, will be back as showrunner.
Dominion launched in June to 2 million total viewers and 805K adults 18-49. It was paired with the second season premiere of Defiance, which also drew 2 million total viewers and 776K Adults 18-49. Dominion will be followed by a slew of other new series and miniseries greenlighted by Syfy’s new regime, including Ascension, The Expanse, 12 Monkeys, Killjoys, and Childhood’s End. Syfy also recently greenlighted the pilot The Magicians, based on Lev Grossman’s book trilogy.
Dominion, from Universal Cable Prods. and Bond Films, is set in the year 25 A.E. In this transformed post-apocalyptic future, an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel.
