With Boardwalk Empire winding down its final season, co-star Shea Whigham has lined up his next series gig, a starring role opposite Hayley Atwell in Marvel’s Agent Carter, ABC’s new series, which will bridge the fall and spring runs of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Whigham will play what is considered the male lead in the series, inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter. Set in 1946, Agent Carter centers on Peggy Carter (Atwell), who, working for the covert Strategic Scientific Reserve, must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark.
Whigham will play the tough but fair-minded SSR Chief Roger Dooley, the man who will oversee agents Carter, Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj). In addition to his regular role as Nucky’s (Steve Buscemi) younger brother on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Whigham also did an arc on the network’s True Detective.
