EXCLUSIVE: Production is just getting underway on 400 Days, a sci-fi thriller that stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Arrow‘s Caity Lotz , Mad Men‘s Ben Feldman, Ed‘s Tom Cavanagh, Grant Bowler and Dane Cook. New Artists Alliance and XLrator Media are backing the film, which is written and directed by Ghost From The Machine‘s Matt Osterman. The psychological pic centers on four astronauts sent on a simulated mission to a distant planet to test the psychological effects of deep space travel. Locked away for 400 days, the crew’s mental state begins to deteriorate when they lose all communication with the outside world. Forced to exit the ship, they discover that this mission may not have been a simulation after all.
“Matt has penned a mind-bending screenplay that reminds us why we make movies to begin with.” says NAA’s Gabriel Cowan. “Its complete sense of awe, mystery, and character grabbed us right away. And the crazy reality is that NASA and the European Space Agency are conducting these types of psychological experiments in preparation for the manned mission to Mars right now.”
It’s a serious turn from the stand-up comic Cook, who’s an exec producer. He has been seen most recently on Louie, and did The Producers at the Hollywood Bowl; he next provides a lead voice in the Disney animated feature Planes: Fire And Rescue.
Cowan and John Suits are producing and Barry Gordon and Michael Radiloff will oversee for XLrator Media. Mandy Wolf, Andrew Orci, Curtis Raines and Bob Griffin are exec producing. Routh is repped by Main Title Entertainment and UTA, Cook by Untitled and UTA, Feldman by Impression Entertainment and UTA and Lotz by UTA.
