Da Vinci's Demons Renewed Season 3EXCLUSIVE: Seven episodes into Da Vinci’s Demons‘ 10-episode second season run, Starz has renewed the historical fantasy series created by David S. Goyer for a third season. It will be shepherded by John Shiban who is joining as executive producer/showrunner. Goyer, who is juggling multiple film and TV projects, will remain an executive producer. “I’m very proud of how1-john-shiban-325(1)this modern take on the endlessly fascinating Leonardo da Vinci — everyone from the writers, directors, cast and all the crew have been invaluable and will continue to be for what we have ahead,”  Goyer said. “I’ve been a fan of John’s work for some time and I’m excited to add his voice to the mix.”

Additionally, Shiban has a drama series in the works at Starz called Blackbirds, based on the novels by Chuck Wendig. The project has set up a writers room, often a pre-cursor to a series pickup at the pay cable network.

Season 2 to date, Da Vinci’s Demons, which follows the “untold” story of the world’s greatest genius, Leonardo da Vinci, during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence, is averaging about 3.7 million viewers per episode across all platforms. Production of the 10-episode Season 3, from Adjacent Pictures,  is expected to begin in Wales later this spring for a 2015 premiere on Starz. “Starz and Adjacent have given us an amazing playground to play in — I can’t wait to dig further into the untold history of Leonardo da Vinci,’” said Shiban.

Shiban adapted the book and is executive producing with David Knoller who exec produces Starz’s upcoming series Power.

Shiban, repped by ICM Partners, began his career as a staff writer on Fox’s The X-Files, rising to executive producer and sharing a writing and best drama series Emmy nomination. He later worked on AMC’s Breaking Bad as a consulting producer, receiving a WGA Award nomination for the episode “Phoenix”. He also served as executive producer/showrunner on AMC’s Hell On Wheels.

Da Vinci’s Demons stars Tom Riley as the title character; Laura Haddock co-stars as Lucrezia Donati; Elliot Cowan as de factor ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici; as his wife Clarice Orsini; and Blake Ritson as the ruthless and unwavering Count Girolamo Riario, nephew of Pope Sixtus IV.
