Less than two weeks have passed since Midnight Rider crew member Sarah Jones was killed in an on-set train collision, and the tributes keep coming from a grieving industry. This Saturday the fallen camera assistant will be honored at the annual Society of Camera Operators (SOC) Awards Celebration held at 6 PM at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. A number of Oscar-goers wore the black “ribbons for Sarah” in tribute to Jones during Sunday’s Academy Awards, including Gravity‘s Oscar-winning sound editor Glenn Freemantle. Jones, who died February 20 on set in Doctortown, Georgia, was memorialized last Wednesday in a service in her hometown of Columbia, SC. Friends and family also gathered in Atlanta, where Jones lived, for a three-hour service on Sunday. IATSE Local 600 is planning a candlelight vigil in L.A. for Friday in her honor and Saturday’s SoC ceremony will include an In Memoriam tribute to Jones during the awards program.
