EXCLUSIVE: Ron Livingston has been cast in The End Of The Tour, the David Foster Wallace true-story pic that James Ponsoldt is directing from Donald Margulies’ adapted screenplay. Jason Segel stars as Infinite Jest author Wallace, who committed suicide in 2008 during a book tour at the start of his fame. Jesse Eisenberg plays Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky, who accompanied Wallace on the tour. Along the way, jealousy and competition emerge between the two as they discuss women, depression and the pros and cons of fame. Livingston will play Lipsky’s editor Bob Levin. The 2013 Black List script is based on Lipsky’s book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace. David Kanter and Matt DeRoss are producing for Anonymous Content with Modern Man Films’ James Dahl and Mark Manuel and Ted O’Neal of Kilburn Media, which is fully financing. Anonymous Content’s Paul Green is exec producing. Rights to the movie were shopped last month at the EFM in Berlin, with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions grabbing several territories.
Livingston is now in production on Shangri-La Suite, the Eddie OKeefe-directed drama in which he stars as Elvis Presley. Livingston also stars in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, which he joined for Season 4. His feature credits include 2013’s The Conjuring and indie comedy Drinking Buddies. His next pic is Fort Bliss opposite Michelle Monaghan. Livingston is repped by UTA and Thruline Entertainment.
