Nick Zano has been cast as the male lead in NBC comedy pilot One Big Happy. Scott Ellis (2 Broke Girls) has come on board to direct the multi-camera project, from Warner Bros. TV and Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production. One Big Happy, a sort of reversed Will & Grace, centers on two platonic friends since childhood, a lesbian, Lizzy, and her straight male best friend, Luke (Zano) who have been living together and have been trying to have a baby via artificial insemination for some time. They finally get pregnant — just as Luke meets and impulsively marries the love of his life. Liz Feldman wrote the script and is exec producing with DeGeneres and Kleeman.
Zano’s casting stems from his collaboration with WBTV on another project this development season. Zano and long-time friends Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin teamed for a comedy series based on Zano’s experiences being raised in a multi-generational house of seven women in New Jersey, which was set up at WBTV and sold to CBS with Zano attached to star. Zano, repped by UTA and John Carrabino, has a potentially recurring role on WBTV’s CBS comedy Mom this season. He recently recurred on CBS/WBTV’ 2 Broke Girls, where he was directed by Ellis in two episodes, and ABC’s Happy Endings and previously co-starred on the WB/WBTV What I Like About You and recurred on Cougar Town.
