Dimension Films has preemptively purchased The Witches Ballroom, a pitch by The Crazies screenwriter Ray Wright. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine at 21 Laps are producing, and there’s no word yet on the plot. Dimension SVP Production and Creative Affairs Matthew Signer and VP Production and Development Keith Levine are overseeing.
“It’s exciting when an original idea takes off, particularly psychological horror which is such a visceral thrill to write,” Wright said in the release announcing the deal. “Dimension is the perfect home for it.” Wright’s last spec, The Widow, was acquired last year by Vendome Pictures. That one centers on a young woman who befriends a lonely widow only to discover that their encounter was not a coincidence.
The latest deal was negotiated for Dimension Films by VP Business and Legal Adrian Lopez and Signer and for Wright by UTA and attorney Mark Temple.
